Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT proteins are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases, forming homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5 beta mediates signal transduction triggered by ligands such as IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones. It plays roles in TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and liver gene expression dimorphism. Dysregulation of STAT5 beta signaling may contribute to acute promyelocytic leukemia (APLL).
