Target Information
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) can stimulate the proliferation of mesenchymal, epithelial, and neuroectodermal cells.
FGF3 belongs to the heparin-binding growth factor family, which includes:
- Acidic FGF (FGF1)
- Basic FGF (FGF2)
- FGF3 (Int2)
- FGF4 (hst or Kaposi FGF)
- FGF5, FGF6, FGF7 (keratinocyte growth factor, KGF)
- FGF8 (AIGF), FGF9 (GAF), FGF10
FGF4 was first identified as an oncoprotein in Kaposi’s sarcoma cells.
FGF3 is activated by proviral insertion of mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) and is implicated in breast malignancies.
