NIPSNAP은 진화적으로 잘 보존된 유전자 패밀리에 속하며, C. elegans 염색체 III 상의 단백질과 높은 서열 유사성을 보입니다. NIPSNAP은 Ca²⁺ 선택적 TRPV6 채널의 조절에 관여하며, TRPV6과 결합하여 전류를 억제합니다. 또한, 페닐케톤뇨증(PKU) 생쥐의 뇌에서 발현이 감소함이 보고되어 기억 기능과 관련이 있을 가능성이 제시되었습니다.
