Target Information
Aquaporin 4 (AQP4), also known as mercurial-insensitive water channel, localizes to the sarcolemma of fast-twitch muscle fibers in skeletal muscle.
Aquaporins (AQPs) are integral membrane water transport channel proteins that facilitate water movement across cell membranes. This function is conserved across animals, plants, and bacteria.
Multiple isoforms (AQP0–AQP10) exist in mammals, and several types can coexist in the same cell. While most aquaporins are water-specific, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript also transport urea and glycerol.
