Product Specific Information

This CMSSB monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD56 (Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule, NCAM). CD56 is a highly glycosylated transmembrane molecule expressed by neurons and involved in homotypic adhesion of neural cells. In the hematopoietic system, CD56 is expressed on NK cells and a subset of T cells (NKT cells). Staining with CMSSB does not block binding of MEM188 or CB56.

Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and validated for flow cytometry on normal human peripheral blood cells.
Use 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test (defined as staining a 100 µL cell sample).

Target Information

CD56 (NCAM) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family serving as an adhesive molecule, expressed throughout the nervous system (120–180 kDa isoforms). It is present on T and NK cells, involved in cell migration, axonal growth, and synaptic plasticity. Polysialic modification reduces CD56-mediated adhesion. CD56 mediates homophilic and heterophilic interactions via extracellular binding to laminin and integrins. It is expressed on most neuroectodermal-derived cell lines and tumors (retinoblastoma, medulloblastoma, astrocytoma, neuroblastoma) and serves as a sensitive neuroendocrine marker.
