Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside and an analogue of thymidine. BrdU is commonly used for detecting proliferating cells in living tissues, as it can be incorporated into newly synthesized DNA during the S phase of the cell cycle, substituting for thymidine during replication. Antibodies specific for BrdU detect the incorporated BrdU, indicating cells actively replicating their DNA. Binding of the antibody requires DNA denaturation, typically achieved by acid or heat treatment.
