Target Information
Cytokeratin pan belongs to a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. Cytokeratins range in molecular weight between 40–68 kDa and have isoelectric points between pH 4.9–7.8. Human cytokeratins are numbered from 1 to 20.
Different epithelia express distinct cytokeratin profiles that correlate with tissue type and differentiation stage. These expression patterns are valuable in distinguishing epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are useful in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays. Expression varies with cell type, growth environment, and disease state, making keratins important markers in cancer research and diagnosis.
