Target Information

The PCDHA3 gene belongs to the protocadherin alpha gene cluster, one of three related clusters on chromosome 5 with a genomic organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters.
This cluster includes 15 cadherin superfamily genes, consisting of 13 highly similar and 2 more distantly related coding sequences. The N-terminal variable exons encode six cadherin ectodomains, while the downstream constant exons encode the cytoplasmic domain.
These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are integral membrane proteins likely involved in establishing and maintaining specific cell-cell connections in the brain. Alternative splicing and additional variants have been observed, though their full-length forms remain undetermined.
