Target Information
RING1 belongs to the RING finger family, encoding proteins with a RING domain—a zinc-binding motif similar to the zinc finger domain. The gene product can bind DNA and function as a transcriptional repressor, associated with the polycomb group protein complex. It interacts with BMI1, EDR1, and CBX4, colocalizing in large nuclear domains. The CBX4 interaction occurs via the glycine-rich C-terminal domain. The gene maps to the HLA class II region, contiguous with RING finger genes FABGL and HKE4.
