Target Information

CD25 (IL2 receptor alpha chain/IL2RA) is a cytokine receptor involved in the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. The IL2 receptor complex consists of IL2RA, IL2RB, and IL2RG chains forming a high-affinity receptor. Homodimeric IL2RA chains form low-affinity receptors, while IL2RB homodimers yield medium affinity. IL2 expression in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, serving as a regulatory mechanism for precise gene expression. IL2, primarily produced by mature T cells, functions as a growth and differentiation factor and regulates apoptosis. It promotes B cell proliferation, enhances NK cell activity, and suppresses granulocyte macrophage colony formation. Disruption of the IL2RA gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, indicating its role in immune regulation. Mutations in this gene are associated with interleukin 2 receptor alpha deficiency.
