Target Information

Cathepsin C, also known as dipeptidyl aminopeptidase I (DPPI), is a tetrameric lysosomal cysteine peptidase belonging to the papain family. It is involved in intracellular protein degradation and precursor processing, participating in cell growth, neuraminidase activation, and platelet factor XIII activation. Cathepsin C shares homology with other lysosomal cysteine proteinases such as cathepsin B, H, and L. Enzymatically, it removes dipeptides sequentially from the amino terminus and requires chloride ions and thiols for full activity. Cathepsin C is expressed in various tissues, with highest levels in spleen, kidney, cytotoxic lymphocytes, and myeloid cells, localizing to the secretory granule compartment. It is synthesized as a proenzyme and processed into two chains forming the mature enzyme.
