Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family involved in signal transduction and T cell activation.
CD8 is mainly expressed on T cells as a heterodimer (CD8α/CD8β) and functions as a co-receptor for MHC-I molecules.
It can also exist as a homodimer (CD8α/CD8α) on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells.
Engagement of MHC-I/peptide complexes triggers Lck recruitment, leading to lymphokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation.
Activated CTLs are critical for pathogen and tumor cell clearance, with differentiation enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
