Target Information
Component of the shelterin complex (telosome) that regulates telomere length and protection. Shelterin binds to double-stranded TTAGGG repeats added by telomerase and safeguards chromosome ends. Loss of shelterin activity exposes telomeres to DNA damage surveillance, leading to inappropriate processing by DNA repair pathways. Promotes POT1 binding to single-stranded telomeric DNA and modulates POT1’s inhibitory effects on telomere elongation. The ACD-POT1 heterodimer enhances telomere elongation by recruiting telomerase and increasing its processivity. May play a role in organogenesis.
