Target Information

GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphophate in the presence of NADPH.

Beyond its glycolytic role, GAPDH is ubiquitously expressed and participates in:

• DNA replication and repair
• Nuclear RNA export
• Membrane fusion and microtubule bundling
• Apoptosis and neurodegenerative disease processes

It interacts with proteins such as amyloid precursor protein (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin (linked to Huntington’s disease). Due to its high expression in most tissues, GAPDH is widely used as a protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
