Target Information
Visfatin, also known as pre-B cell colony-enhancing factor (PBEF) or nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), is an adipocytokine abundantly secreted by visceral adipose tissue. It exhibits insulin-mimetic effects by binding to the insulin receptor, reducing glucose release from liver cells, and stimulating glucose utilization in adipocytes and myocytes. Visfatin is involved in cell proliferation, nicotinamide mono- and dinucleotide biosynthesis, and glucose homeostasis.
