Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the large DEAD-box protein family, defined by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif, and has ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity. This protein displays high RNA-independent ATPase activity, and unlike most DEAD-box helicases, its ATPase activity is stimulated by both RNA and DNA.
It functions in both the nucleus and cytoplasm, participating in transcriptional regulation, mRNP assembly, pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export, translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication. Misregulation of this gene has been linked to tumorigenesis. The gene has a paralog on the Y chromosome and pseudogenes on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
