Target Information

Laminins are major noncollagenous constituents of basement membranes and are involved in various biological processes such as cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis.
These effects are mediated through interactions with cell surface receptors, including integrin and non-integrin laminin-binding proteins.

This gene encodes a high-affinity non-integrin laminin receptor 1, also known as:

• 67 kD laminin receptor
• 37 kD laminin receptor precursor (37LRP)
• p40 ribosome-associated protein

The amino acid sequence of laminin receptor 1 is highly conserved through evolution, suggesting a key biological function.
In colon carcinoma and lung cancer cell lines, the laminin receptor transcript level is higher compared to normal tissues, correlating with invasive and metastatic phenotypes.
Multiple copies of this gene exist, mostly pseudogenes from retropositional events.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
