Target Information
This gene encodes a protein belonging to the serine/threonine protein kinase STE20 subfamily.
One of the active site residues in the protein kinase domain of this protein is altered, rendering it a pseudokinase.
It is part of a complex that activates serine/threonine kinase 11, a master kinase regulating cell polarity and metabolism.
This complex controls the relocation of the kinase from nucleus to cytoplasm and is essential for G1 cell cycle arrest.
The encoded protein also interacts with the X chromosome-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein, enhancing anti-apoptotic activity via the JNK1 signaling pathway.
Two pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 1 and 7.
