Target Information
The MOG gene encodes a membrane protein expressed on the surface of oligodendrocytes and the outermost surface of myelin sheaths. This localization makes it a primary antigen in immune-mediated demyelination. The protein may play roles in myelin sheath maintenance and cell-cell communication. Alternative splicing leads to different isoforms.
