Target Information
Thymidine phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate in the presence of inorganic orthophosphate.
It acts as a chemotactic and mitogenic factor for endothelial cells and serves as a non-heparin binding angiogenic factor present in platelets.
TP is also involved in the transformation of fluoropyrimidines, cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment, into active metabolites.
