Target Information
The gene encodes a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, which has broad mitogenic and cell survival activities. FGF-9 is involved in embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion. It acts as a growth-stimulating factor for cultured glial cells and plays a role in glial cell development. In mice, its expression is dependent on Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling and is associated with testicular embryogenesis.
