Recombinant Human TGF-beta1 is a 25.0 kDa homo-dimer consisting of two identical 112 amino acid polypeptide chains (each 12.5 kDa) linked by a single disulfide bond.

Target Information

TGF beta-1 (TGFB1, Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1) is a member of the TGF-beta superfamily of cytokines, widely present in tissues. It is stored in the extracellular matrix as a latent complex with its pro-domain. Activation requires binding of αV integrin to an RGD sequence in the prodomain and mechanical force exertion through latent TGF-beta binding proteins (LTBP).

Latent forms consist of TGF beta-1, the latency-associated peptide (LAP), and LTBP. TGF beta-1 regulates proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, and migration in various cell types. It can act as both a positive and negative regulator of other growth factors. The mature form may form homodimers or heterodimers with other TGF-beta family members. The TGFB1 gene is often upregulated in tumor cells, and mutations are linked to Camurati-Engelmann disease and cystic fibrosis.
