Target Information
ATP synthase is an evolutionarily conserved transmembrane enzyme complex found in plants, fungi, bacteria, and animals. It catalyzes the reversible conversion of ADP and phosphate to ATP through a proton flux across the membrane driven by electron transfer.
The enzyme consists of two main sections:
- F1 ATP-ase (soluble): composed of α, β, γ, δ, and ε subunits
- F0 ATP-ase (membrane embedded): composed of a, b, and c subunits
