Target Information
Uridylyltransferase that mediates the terminal uridylation of mRNAs with short (less than 25 nucleotides) poly(A) tails, facilitating global mRNA decay. Essential for oocyte maturation and fertility.
Through 3′ terminal uridylation of mRNA, TUT7 and ZCCHC6 regulate maternal transcriptome by eliminating transcripts during oocyte growth. Involved in microRNA-induced gene silencing via uridylation of deadenylated miRNA targets.
Acts as a suppressor of miRNA biogenesis by mediating terminal uridylation of specific pre-miRNAs such as pre-let-7, preventing Dicer processing and promoting degradation.
In cooperation with LIN28A, enhances pre-let-7 uridylation.
TUT4 and TUT7 also restrict retrotransposition of LINE-1 elements by uridylating LINE-1 mRNAs, inhibiting reverse transcription and destabilizing cytoplasmic mRNAs.
