Target Information
GNPDA1 is a 289 amino acid cytoplasmic protein belonging to the glucosamine/galactosamine-6-phosphate isomerase family. It is one of the two mammalian glucosamine-6-phosphate deaminase enzymes.
GNPDA1 catalyzes the reversible conversion of D-glucosamine-6-phosphate (GlcN6P) into D-fructose-6-phosphate (Fru6P) and ammonium through aldo/keto isomerization and amination/deamination.
It may trigger calcium oscillations in mammalian eggs at fertilization, serving as an important factor for egg and early embryo development.
This homohexameric enzyme is ubiquitously expressed in most human tissues, with high expression in testis, ovary, placenta, heart, and various cell lines.
