Target Information
High density lipoproteins (HDLs) function jointly with lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase and CETP to facilitate cholesterol transport from tissues to the liver. This reverse cholesterol transport mechanism is physiologically important for maintaining systemic cholesterol levels. CETP mediates neutral lipid transfer activity in plasma across numerous species and accelerates the exchange of lipid components between pro- and anti-atherogenic lipoprotein fractions. Elevated CETP levels have been associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease, making CETP a potential target for atherosclerosis prevention.
