Target Information
Cannabinoids exert their physiological effects through two G protein-coupled receptors, cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and CB2. Both receptors inhibit adenylyl cyclase and stimulate MAPK activity.
CB1 receptors modulate ion channels through G-protein interactions and are associated with psychoactive effects via inhibition of presynaptic calcium channels.
CB2 receptors primarily function in the immune system and may also be present in the central nervous system, including the retina.
