Target Information
Cytokeratin 19 is a member of the intermediate filament protein family, showing biochemical diversity across human epithelial tissues with at least 20 distinct polypeptides. These proteins range in molecular weight from 40–68 kDa and have isoelectric points between 4.9–7.8.
Cytokeratin expression patterns are characteristic of epithelial type and differentiation stage, aiding in distinguishing various epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable in differential tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometry. Notably, Cytokeratin 19 is not expressed in hepatocytes, making it useful for identifying liver metastases.
