Target Information
Cytokeratin 19 is part of the intermediate filament protein subfamily, characterized by biochemical diversity represented by at least 20 polypeptides in human epithelial tissues. Cytokeratins range in molecular weight from 40–68 kDa with isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype is numbered 1–20 and exhibits tissue-specific expression patterns, reflecting epithelial type and differentiation state. These expression profiles are valuable for distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are widely used in:
- Differential diagnosis of tumors via immunohistochemistry
- Cytopathology and flow cytometric assays
Notably, Cytokeratin 19 is not expressed in hepatocytes, making it useful for identifying liver metastases.
