Target Information

CAMKK1 (CAMKKA) is a serine/threonine protein kinase family member belonging to the Ca²⁺/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase subfamily. CaMKK alpha is a component of the nuclear factor of activated T cells (NFAT) DNA-binding transcription complex. This complex includes a cytosolic component that translocates to the nucleus upon T cell receptor (TCR) stimulation and an inducible nuclear component. Members of this family regulate inducible gene transcription during immune responses. CAMKK1 functions as a major molecular target for immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclosporin A. Five transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for CaMKK alpha, which may regulate inducible expression of different cytokine genes.
