Target Information

Calmodulin mediates the control of numerous enzymes, ion channels, aquaporins, and other proteins through Ca²⁺ binding. The calmodulin–Ca²⁺ complex stimulates various protein kinases and phosphatases. Together with CCP110 and centrin, it regulates the centrosome cycle and cytokinesis.
Calmodulin is a small, highly conserved calcium-binding protein (17 kDa) found in all eukaryotic cells, capable of binding up to four calcium ions. It acts as an intracellular receptor for regulatory calcium signals, undergoing conformational changes upon calcium binding that enhance its affinity for target proteins.
Calmodulin participates in energy metabolism, cell motility, exocytosis, cytoskeletal assembly, and intracellular modulation of cAMP and calcium levels. It contains 149 amino acids and four calcium-binding domains, playing key roles in growth, cell cycle, signal transduction, and neurotransmitter synthesis and release.
