The Spike protein receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, showing higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD.
SARS-CoV-2 S protein is 1273 amino acids long, consisting of:

• Signal peptide (1–13)
• S1 subunit (14–685): receptor binding
• S2 subunit (686–1273): membrane fusion
  The S-ECD represents the extracellular domain of the Spike protein.
