Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The CoV Spike (S) protein is crucial for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, serving as a key target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development.
The Spike protein receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, showing higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD.
SARS-CoV-2 S protein is 1273 amino acids long, consisting of:
- Signal peptide (1–13)
- S1 subunit (14–685): receptor binding
- S2 subunit (686–1273): membrane fusion
The S-ECD represents the extracellular domain of the Spike protein.
