Specificity Comments:
Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is a T cell stimulatory cytokine that induces T cell and NK cell proliferation and activation. Produced by T-cells in response to antigenic or mitogenic stimulation, IL-2 is crucial for immune regulation. It can stimulate B-cells, monocytes, lymphokine-activated killer cells, natural killer cells, and glioma cells. The IL-2 receptor is a heterotrimeric complex whose gamma chain is shared by IL-4 and IL-7. IL-2 induces CTLA-4 and functions as a lymphocyte survival factor.

Target Information

Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is an immuno-modulatory cytokine essential for proliferation of activated T cells and differentiation of B cells, NK cells, monocytes, and macrophages. IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor (IL-2R), a heterotrimeric complex whose gamma chain is shared by IL-4 and IL-7. Expression of the IL-2 gene in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, representing a unique regulatory mechanism. Disruption of IL-2–like genes in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, indicating its critical role in immune response regulation.
