Target Information
In vertebrates, homeobox genes are organized in clusters (A, B, C, and D) on four separate chromosomes. Expression of these transcription factors is spatially and temporally regulated during embryonic development.
HOXA5, located on chromosome 7, encodes a DNA-binding transcription factor involved in gene expression, morphogenesis, and differentiation. Methylation of HOXA5 may silence its expression; since HOXA5 upregulates tumor suppressor p53, it may play a role in tumorigenesis.
