Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily. These proteins contain a polybasic proteolytic processing site that is cleaved to form a mature protein with seven conserved cysteine residues. Members of this family regulate cell growth and differentiation in both embryonic and adult tissues. Mouse studies indicate that this protein plays a role in skeletal morphogenesis.
