This antibody detects endogenous levels of total HTR2A / 5-HT-2A protein.
Target Information
Serotonin plays a major role in cardiovascular function and gastrointestinal motility through several G protein-coupled receptors known as 5-HT or SR receptors. The SR-2 receptor family includes SR-2A, SR-2B, and SR-2C subtypes, which activate phospholipase C and release intracellular calcium in response to serotonin.
- SR-2A: Involved in tracheal smooth muscle contraction, bronchoconstriction, and aldosterone production; implicated in psychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia.
- SR-2B: Expressed in cardiovascular tissues, gut, and brain; associated with cardiac pathology.
- SR-2C: Believed to mediate effects of atypical antipsychotic drugs.
