Target Information
Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase essential for normal actin cytoskeleton organization. It plays a role in the formation of polarized columnar-shaped epithelium by maintaining polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitating vesicle transport, and preventing MAP4 binding to tubulin.
It is required for mitotic progression and forms a scaffold at the midplane of the mitotic spindle to maintain CENPE localization at kinetochores, ensuring proper chromosome congression. During anaphase, Septin 2 contributes to chromosome segregation and spindle elongation.
Additionally, Septin 2 is involved in ciliogenesis and collective cell movements.
