Target Information
CD49b (Integrin alpha 2, Integrin alpha 2 chain, VLA-2 alpha chain, HM alpha 2) is a glycoprotein of approximately 150 kDa and a member of the integrin family. It forms a heterodimer with CD29 (Integrin beta 1) to create the integrin VLA-2 (alpha 2 beta 1, or GPIa/IIa) complex. This receptor binds extracellular matrix proteins such as laminin, collagen, and fibronectin, activating intracellular signaling pathways upon ligand binding.
CD49b is involved in VEGF-induced angiogenesis, cell adhesion, and lymphocyte activation. It is expressed in NK cells, NK-T cells, monocytes, platelets, epithelial cells, and subsets of adaptive immune cells including CD4+ T cells in the spleen, intestinal lymphocytes, and peripheral CD4+ type 1 regulatory (Tr1) cells co-expressing LAG-3.
