Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) belongs to the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) family and is the most studied member.
It consists of:
- Ectodomain (ECD) with four subdomains (DI–DIV)
- Transmembrane region
- Cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase domain (TKD)
Ligand binding induces conformational changes in the ECD, leading to EGFR dimerization and activation of TKD, resulting in signal transduction.
This receptor has a molecular weight of approximately 178 kDa.
