Target Information
WNK is a serine/threonine kinase that plays an important role in the regulation of electrolyte homeostasis, cell signaling, survival, and proliferation. It acts as both activator and inhibitor of sodium-coupled and potassium-coupled chloride cotransporters, respectively.
WNK activates SCNN1A, SCNN1B, SCNN1D, and SGK1, and localizes to the distal nephron of the kidney, involved in salt, potassium, and pH homeostasis.
Mutations in the WNK gene result in Pseudohypaldosteronism and Neuropathy.
