Target Information
CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase that forms an active holoenzyme complex with Cyclin T1, playing a key role in regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. It is coexpressed and copurified with Cyclin T1 and regulates cytokine-inducible transcription networks by facilitating promoter recognition of transcription factors. CDK9 promotes RNA synthesis in genetic programs related to cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis. The CDK9/Cyclin-K complex also phosphorylates the CTD of RNA polymerase II and can substitute for CDK9/Cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 can cause cardiac myocyte enlargement, leading to cardiac hypertrophy and a predisposition to heart failure.
