Product Specific Information

This SMMS-1 monoclonal antibody reacts with both isoforms of the human smooth muscle myosin heavy chain (SM1 and SM2), structural proteins of the contractile apparatus in smooth muscle cells.
Smooth muscle myosin heavy chains are expressed by myoepithelial cells and serve as terminal differentiation markers for smooth muscle cells.
In normal breast tissue, myoepithelial cells form the outer layer of the lumen lining. In benign and in situ breast lesions, intact myoepithelial layer stains with SMMS-1, and loss of staining indicates invasive cancer.
This antibody also cross-reacts with bovine, canine, feline, and rat smooth muscle myosin heavy chains.

Applications Reported:
Used for microscopy, immunohistochemical staining of frozen and paraffin-embedded tissue sections, and immunocytochemistry.

Applications Tested:
Tested by IHC of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded human tissue using low pH antigen retrieval at ≤20 µg/mL. Antibody should be titrated for optimal performance.

Target Information

SM-MHC is a cytoplasmic structural protein, major component of the contractile apparatus in smooth muscle cells. Expression is developmentally regulated and specific to smooth muscle development. Two isoforms identified: MHC-1 and MHC-2.
