Target Information

The IL1RAPL1 gene encodes a protein belonging to the interleukin 1 receptor family, similar to interleukin 1 accessory proteins. It includes an N-terminal signal peptide, three extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains, a transmembrane domain, an intracellular Toll/IL-1R domain, and a long C-terminal tail that interacts with multiple signaling molecules.

This gene is located on chromosome X and is associated with a non-syndromic form of X-linked intellectual disability. Deletions or mutations have been identified in affected patients. IL1RAPL1 is highly expressed in postnatal brain structures involved in the hippocampal memory system, suggesting a role in memory and learning processes, as well as in synapse formation and stabilization.
