Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the ADAMTS (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motif) protein family. Members of this family share several distinct protein modules, including:
- Propeptide region
- Metalloproteinase domain
- Disintegrin-like domain
- Thrombospondin type 1 (TS) motif
Individual members differ in the number of C-terminal TS motifs and may have unique C-terminal domains.
This gene is highly similar to ADAMTS2 and ADAMTS3, and the encoded protein shares aminoprocollagen peptidase activity.
Various transcript variants have been identified, resulting from different promoters, transcription initiation sites, and alternative splicing.
The full-length nature of some transcripts has not been defined.
