Target Information

This gene encodes subunit 1 of the splicing factor 3a (SF3A) protein complex. The heterotrimeric SF3A complex (subunits 1, 2, 3) is required for converting 15S U2 snRNP into the active 17S particle that performs pre‑mRNA splicing.
Subunit 1 belongs to the SURP protein family, containing tandemly repeated SURP motifs in the N‑terminal region and a proline‑rich plus ubiquitin‑like domain in the C‑terminal region. The SURP motifs mediate RNA binding and are essential for binding to subunit 3, while interactions with subunit 2 occur through sequences C‑terminal to the SURP motifs. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
