Target Information
This gene belongs to the glutathione S-transferase (GST) super-family, encoding multifunctional enzymes essential for detoxification of electrophilic molecules such as carcinogens, mutagens, and therapeutic drugs via conjugation with glutathione.
It also contributes to phenylalanine and tyrosine catabolism. Defects in this enzyme may result in metabolic disorders including alkaptonuria, phenylketonuria, and tyrosinaemia.
Several transcript variants encode multiple protein isoforms.
