SIRT5는 Sirtuin(Sir2-like) 단백질 계열의 인간 단백질로, 원핵생물과 진핵생물 모두에 존재합니다. 모든 Sir2-like 단백질은 세균부터 인간에 이르는 생물에서 보존된 서열 모티프를 포함하는 sirtuin core domain을 가지고 있습니다. Sirtuin은 NAD를 대사하며 mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase로 작용할 수 있습니다. 효소 기능은 완전히 규명되지 않았으나, Sir2가 NAD 대사 및 히스톤 탈아세틸화에 관여한다는 보고가 있습니다.
