Target Information
BCLAF1 (BCL2-Associated Transcription Factor 1) is an intracellular, death-promoting transcriptional repressor of survival genes that interacts with several members of the BCL2 family. It shows homology to the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) and MYB DNA-binding domains.
In apoptotic cells, BCLAF1 localizes to dot-like nuclear structures and redistributes near the nuclear envelope. Overexpression induces apoptosis, which can be suppressed by co-expression of BCL2 proteins. Also known as BTF, it triggers a proapoptotic signal that may help overcome resistance to STI571. BCLAF1 is predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle.
