Target Information
The type II cAMP-protein kinase (PKA) is a multifunctional kinase with a broad range of substrates. Specificity of PKA signaling is mediated by compartmentalization of the kinase to specific cellular sites. The R subunit (RII) of PKA interacts with RII-anchoring proteins (AKAPs) to maintain localization.
AKAP95 (AKAP8) is a nuclear matrix protein expressed in liver, heart, pancreas, kidney, and skeletal muscle. During mitosis, AKAP95 is recruited to chromosomes and plays an essential role in mitotic progression. It participates in PKA signaling via interaction with the RII subunit and forms a complex with HA95 and HDAC3, contributing to histone H3 deacetylation during mitosis.
