Target Information
Transcription factor HES-2, belonging to the HES family, contains one basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain and one orange domain. It is expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells and may play a role in their differentiation. Activation of the Notch signaling pathway induces Hes family gene expression through interaction between the Notch intracellular domain and RBPSUH (CSL). Hes proteins are mammalian homologs of Drosophila Hairy and Enhancer of split, functioning as transcriptional repressors involved in stem cell fate determination by suppressing tissue-specific transcriptional activators.
